Delta is a small agricultural city at the confluence of the Gunnison and Uncompahgre rivers in the heart of the Western Slope. Known as the "City of Murals," Delta's historic Main Street is lined with artwork, locally-owned shops, and restaurants — and right in the middle of it all is Mimi's Sweet Treats.

Western Slope Wine Country

Colorado's Western Slope is one of the state's premier wine regions. Palisade — just 50 miles north — is home to world-class wineries in a stunning high-desert landscape.

Delta sits at the crossroads of some of Colorado's most spectacular public lands. Whether you want a casual nature walk or a backcountry expedition, it's all within reach.

⛰️ Gunnison Gorge NCA

One of the most dramatic canyons in Colorado. The Gunnison Gorge National Conservation Area offers rim trails, inner gorge hikes, and world-class Gold Medal fly fishing on the Gunnison River. Rugged, remote, and absolutely stunning.

🏞️ Black Canyon of the Gunnison

A UNESCO World Heritage site-worthy national park. The Black Canyon's sheer walls drop nearly 2,000 feet. The South Rim drive, overlook trails, and inner canyon routes are all world-class. Plan 3+ hours minimum.

🌲 Grand Mesa National Forest

The world's largest flat-top mountain sits right in Delta County's backyard. Over 300 lakes, 200+ miles of trails, ATV roads, and some of the best fall foliage in Colorado. Hike, fish, mountain bike, or simply drive the scenic byway and take in the views.

🪨 Escalante Canyon

A true Delta County hidden gem. This remote canyon along the Gunnison River features ancient Fremont petroglyphs, dramatic red rock walls, and near-solitude on the trails. A favorite with locals who know.

🌄 Uncompahgre Plateau

An 80-mile forested ridge running southwest of Delta. Elk, mule deer, aspen groves, and sweeping views. Excellent hiking, mountain biking, and four-wheel driving. One of the most biodiverse public land areas in Colorado.

🦅 Sweitzer Lake State Park

A peaceful state park just minutes from Downtown Delta. Great for families — fishing, birdwatching (over 200 species documented), kayaking, and picnic areas. Perfect for a quiet morning before heading to Mimi's for lunch.

🎣 Gold Medal Fishing

The Gunnison River below the Black Canyon holds trophy brown and rainbow trout. Designated Gold Medal waters — some of the finest fly fishing in Colorado. Guides and gear rentals available in the area.

🚵 Mountain Biking

The Grand Mesa and Uncompahgre Plateau offer miles of single-track and dirt road biking. The area around Delta also has flat valley riding for casual cyclists. Fat tire season runs nearly year-round on the plateau.

Scenic Drives

Western Colorado is made for road trips. These drives from Delta pass through some of the most dramatic landscapes in the American West.

🏔️ Million Dollar Highway

One of the most legendary drives in America. Head south from Delta toward Montrose, then continue on US-550 through Ouray, Silverton, and Durango. Dramatic alpine passes, sheer cliff roads, historic mining towns, and views that stop you cold. Allow a full day.

🌲 Grand Mesa Scenic Byway

CO-65 climbs from Cedaredge over the Grand Mesa through a landscape of alpine lakes, spruce forests, and wildflower meadows before descending into the Grand Valley. One of Colorado's designated Scenic Byways — every mile is stunning.

💧 Curecanti & Blue Mesa

Follow US-50 east through Montrose and Gunnison along the Blue Mesa Reservoir — Colorado's largest body of water. The Curecanti National Recreation Area offers marina access, fishing, and kayaking on a stunning high-desert lake.

🌵 Canyon Country Loop

Head south toward Hotchkiss, Paonia, and Somerset through the North Fork Valley — a lush agricultural corridor known for organic farming, craft beer, and dramatic canyon walls. Return via Carbondale and Glenwood Springs for the full loop.

🍷 Palisade Wine Trail

Head north on US-50 to I-70, then east to Palisade. The Fruit & Wine Byway loops through vineyards, orchards, and tasting rooms in one of Colorado's most scenic agricultural valleys. Perfect fall afternoon drive.

🦕 Dinosaur Country

Head west toward Grand Junction and beyond to Dinosaur National Monument — where world-class fossil sites sit exposed in canyon walls. A unique Western Colorado experience for families and geology buffs alike.
